How Patriotic...

Well, election is only eight days away... And I hope you're voting. Because as they say, those who don't vote can't complain.

Huntly Brown says, "that whoever wins this election will have his prayer support", and I would have to say the same.

I have been so very interested in this election. Normally I could care less about anything political, but these last couple of months I have been doing a little research; mainly on our man Barack Hussein Obama. Who accidentally said "my Muslim faith". Oops, that happens to me all the time when I'm talking about my Christian faith.

Did you know that he is friends with Mr. Ayers? If you don't know who Bill Ayers is; in 1969 he co-founded the radical organization the Weather Underground. Ayers and the Weatherman were responsible for 30 bombing aimed at destroying the defense and security infrastructures of the U.S.. "I don't regret setting bombs," said Ayers in 2001 after 9/11, "I feel we didn't do enough"
Hello! And he's buddies with Obama?

I received this forward from one of my aunts and thought I would share it.

'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts!

Wow Danette,

I don't think I ever pictured you as a political activist!

Thanks for the info. I will share it with Josh tonight.

Here is the full 2 minutes around that misleading 13 second clip. It is as clear as day that he's putting sarcastic quotes around "my Muslim faith" since the entire question is about his (actual) Christian faith.

"A review of records of the schools project and interviews with a dozen people who know both men, suggest that Mr. Obama, 47, has played down his contacts with Mr. Ayers, 63. But the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called 'somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.'"

I wouldn't say "buddies".

I've been hearing about bad feelings about him quite a bit lately. What I don't understand is how those can develop about a person you've never met?

I'm not saying vote Obama. I'd just like to see that my peers took more care to be informed. The only thing I'm completely against here is misinformation.

Hey Jacob,

I'm not sure who you are or how you found this post so quickly, but I'm taking a wild guess that you didn't much care for it.

I don't feel there was any "misinformation" in this post at all, but I guess that's just my personal opinion.

I do apologize if you've found it offensive in someway, but I believe I am entitled to my own opinions. Freedom of speech or something like that in the first amendment.

You might find these forums interesting... ...But then again maybe not.

Are you in politics by chance?

Your blog's (which I have found inspirational at times) RSS feed, along with other blogs, Digg, and NY Times, is in my Google Reader and I check it every morning at work. Since I posted once, I'm subscribed automatically by email to activity on this thread, I get my email on my phone (it alerts me), and I can leave a comment on my phone as well. Thus, the quick responses.

I don't have a problem with you posting on your blog of course, I didn't find it offensive in anyway, and, as Voltaire is quoted as saying, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I don't feel the issues you've brought up are legitimate issues against Obama. This is based on research which I filter through my perspective, same as you. Counter points are protected under the First Amendment too, my friend. Do you have any specific reply to my replies?

We have met in Huntsville. We've chatted back and forth a few times on MySpace. I'm friends with Nick Saunders.

I do know you Jacob come to think of it.. I guess I just never thought of you as a supporter Obama.

When you are watching someone and you don't agree with the things they are doing or saying, that is how you develop a bad feeling about a person.

We could argue or discuss (which ever you prefer to call it) until we're both blue in the face. It wont change that fact that I believe what I believe and you believe what you believe.

I've done my research and I'm sorry you don't feel the issues I've brought up are legitimate. Maybe you aught to take a deeper look yourself.

I don't develop bad feelings about someone I don't agree with. I personally view differences as opportunities for me to learn something. Because I don't know everything and I can't, my beliefs are subject to change. Let me do my best to avoid blue in my face and respond to what you have said. Isn't that what having a conversation is all about? And don't worry about offending me; I'm not going to take any of this personally.

The Bill Ayers thing and the Muslim thing is ridiculous and isn't based on anything at all. However, I didn't realize we were talking about abortion so I apologize as I do take that issue seriously. I will ask you a question though that illustrates where I personally get hung up on the over simplification of the abortion issue. Then maybe you can respond and help me see what I'm missing.

Let the punishment fit the crime. If abortion should be illegal, what should the punishment be?

Danette Ann said...

Is abortion not murder? Shouldn't the punishment be the same?

We need to be responsible for our own actions...

I've been debating on whether or not to post the comments I've made above, for fear of offending someone that may come across this... But now that I have thought about for awhile I realize that some things need to be said.

We sit back and and don't say anything about same sex marriages, we let prayer be taken out of our schools and now I don't want to say anything about abortions being wrong because I'm afraid it might offend someone.

Where will be draw the line?

Heather...

All I'm saying is that whether you call it fetus or a baby, the fact remains the same that it is still a human being.

I'm sure different rules would have to apply to different situations just like everything else.

Does murder fall under freedom of choice?

heather1214 said...

Well I mean, if we were going to get all techinical about it, then yes it does.

Like I said, I don't agree with abortion at all, if you can't take responsibility for your actions, you shouldn't be doing them, and it makes me sad that people are doing it anyawys. But again, you CANNOT take away freedom of choice. Even if it were to be illegal, what good is that going to do? People will still do it, and you would never know that they are. So the most that does it put YOUR mind at ease.

Samuel J. Costner said...

All crimes committed are illegal but people still commit them. Why do we bother making it illegal? A line has to be drawn somewhere. Of course it's more complicated than "just making abortion illegal" but it's become far to lax. The freedom of choice in an avarage situation is most typically excercised at conception.

And what laws are there not exceptions for? Come on. Why don't we just make it so that the mother can have the baby for a few days after birth before making a decision about the abortion. After all, what proof do we have that newborns are any more self conscious than unborn children? Morality has to come into play.

Roe vs. Wade

You´re talking about drawing the line somewhere and then about the two extremes. Morning after pills are generally considered acceptable and killing a baby after birth is usually not. So yes, obviously, drawing a line somewhere is what needs to be done and deciding where that is is open for debate.

You can´t make your morality into law for everyone. You have to accept the ebb and flow of public opinion because you live in a democracy. If the majority of people are okay with the Roe vs Wade Supreme court decision then it should be made into law based on that fact alone not on "morality".
